With over 12 years continuously supporting friction welding machines — from direct employment through to independent practice — Gareth has developed an unmatched depth of knowledge across friction welding machine architecture, controls systems and mechanical operation.
Gareth Griffiths began his engineering career with an apprenticeship at a global electronics manufacturer, completing his training in 2003. Over the following nine years he progressed from engineer to Engineering & Project Manager at a leading UK manufacturer — leading the engineering team and a production department, delivering a range of improvement and capital projects, and developing his own OEE monitoring system to capture live production data from site machines. During this period Gareth also completed a BSc in Mechatronic Engineering, a qualification that reflects the combined mechanical, electrical and software disciplines central to his engineering practice.
In 2012, Gareth joined a world-leading friction welding manufacturing OEM, where he spent the following years developing deep specialist knowledge of friction welding machines, processes and control systems. He continued supporting friction welding customers through a subsequent systems integrator role, building expertise in Rockwell and Siemens PLC platforms, variable frequency drives and wider automation integration throughout.
In 2022, Gareth founded Griffiths Engineering Solutions Ltd, bringing over 25 years of hands-on engineering experience to an independent specialist practice. Clients range from cable-laying vessels operating out of Japan, to local companies innovating combustion engine technology, large global paint manufacturers, and friction welding specialists across the world.
